Comparison of isokinetic strength and flexibility measures between hamstring injured and noninjured athletes.

چکیده
The purpose of this study was to compare isokinetic strength and flexibility measures between hamstring injured and noninjured athletes. Sixteen university athletes with history of hamstring injury were matched by motor dominance, sport, and position to sixteen university athletes without history of hamstring injury. Each subject was tested for concentric and eccentric quadriceps and hamstring peak torque and reciprocal muscle group ratios on a Kinetic Communicator(R) (KIN-COM) dynamometer at 60 degrees /sec and 180 degrees /sec. Each subject's hamstring flexibility was determined by passively extending the knee while the hip was maintained at 90 degrees of flexion. Analysis of variance indicated that the injured extremity was significantly less flexible than the noninjured extremity within the hamstring injured group, and the hamstring injured group was less flexible than the noninjured group. No significant strength differences existed between the hamstring injured and noninjured group on any isokinetic measure evaluated. The importance of assessing hamstring flexibility is emphasized. Flexibility and posture assessment in relation to hamstring injury.
Posture and flexibility were assessed in 34 athletes. Subjects were divided into two groups: (1) a noninjured group that did not have a history of hamstring strain injury within the previous 12 months; (2) an injured group that had a history of hamstring strain within the previous 12 months. Ten postural components were assessed: head erectness; shoulder symmetry; spinal curvature; hip symmetry...
متن کاملContralateral leg deficits in kinetic and kinematic variables during running in Australian rules football players with previous hamstring injuries.
Contralateral leg deficits between lower limbs during athletic movements are thought to increase the risk of injury and compromise performance. The purpose of this study was to quantify the magnitude of leg deficits during running in noninjured and previously injured Australian Rules football (ARF) players. The players included a group of noninjured ARF players (n = 11) and a group of previousl...
متن کاملHamstring strength and morphology progression after return to sport from injury.
PURPOSE Hamstring strain reinjury rates can reach 30% within the initial 2 wk after return to sport (RTS). Incomplete recovery of strength may be a contributing factor. However, relative strength of the injured and unaffected limbs at RTS is currently unknown. The purpose was to characterize hamstring strength and morphology at the time of RTS and 6 months later. METHODS Twenty-five athletes w...
متن کاملIsokinetic strength testing does not predict hamstring injury in Australian Rules footballers.
OBJECTIVE To determine the relation of hamstring and quadriceps muscle strength and imbalance to hamstring injury using a prospective observational cohort study METHOD A total of 102 senior male Australian Rules footballers aged 22.2 (3.6) years were tested at the start of a football season. Maximum voluntary concentric and eccentric torque of the hamstring and quadriceps muscles of both legs...
متن کاملEccentric and concentric isokinetic moment characteristics in the quadriceps and hamstrings of the chronic isolated posterior cruciate ligament injured knee.
OBJECTIVE Functional strength deficits associated with chronic isolated posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) insufficiency have received limited attention in the literature. The purpose of this study was to determine the eccentric and concentric isokinetic moment characteristics of the quadriceps and hamstrings in a sample of patients with isolated PCL injury. METHODS Eccentric and concentric me...
